✈︎ Surviving Summer Travel Rush

Summer is traditionally a high-flying/traveling season.

It seems to be common sense as school is out, the weather is A1, “outside” is open, & people are anxious to leave the place they spent all of 2020 in daydreaming. But over the last few days we’ve realized that it’s not so common knowledge—via social media posts & extreme frustration with typical airline woes that has lead to physical brawls in the airport.

So we had to take a step back to acknowledge… not everyone is a frequent traveler. Some are taking their very first flight this summer, while others may not have flown since 2019.

Whatever the case is, here are a few tips for Surviving Summer Travel Rush:

1️⃣ Know the boarding time & plan accordingly to it—NOT to the departure time
* planning around the departure time will have you showing up to the gate just after boarding is complete & aircraft door is being closed.
Meaning: you are not getting on that flight, sis.

* Boarding times are usually somewhere around 35-40 mins PRIOR to departure (depending on airline) on DOMestic trips & somewhere around 45-60 mins PRIOR to departure on INTL trips.

Some airlines provide you with the boarding time. For those that do not, do the calculations -- subtract 45 mins (or however long according to airline and destination) from the departure time & use that time as your reference

2️⃣ EAT! And always have snacks
* Hangry is a real emotion & sometimes, like the Snickers commercials, it causes us to act out & have outer body experiences 😩, unlike our pleasant, kind, usual selves.

Scenario: an unforeseeable delay pops up (for example after pushback from the gate—& you’re out to the side on the tarmac awaiting takeoff), you have not a granola bar in sight. You’re literally stuck. Nothing you can really do.

3️⃣ If you need to get somewhere important (happens a lot with cruises), 🗣Go a DAY OR 2 AHEAD!
Trust & believe, your flight attendants can do a lot of 💩 but gathering you, all your ish & traveling buddies off the plane through the emergency row’s windows, onto a magic carpet, across the country - for your cruise, is one of the things they canNOT do.

Basically, the flight attendants are just as stuck as you 😞
...and probably not getting paid.

So be kind, pack hella patience and consider the above tips for a more pleasant journey.
